Time Ran Away From Us and Other Telling Time Problems

My students need extra work with elapsed time. They need 20 Elapsed Time Write & Wipe Boards, a learning center, markers, and 6 timers. Based on our standardized test score trends over 4 years this skill is lacking.

My Students

Only time will tell. The first time you could look at a clock and make sense of the hands and numbers was an extremely satisfying experience. Then came the hard stuff. My students have hit a wall with elapsed time. I want to immerse them in telling time and elapsed time. Will you help?

It's rural Alabama and small town life.

Our school is located in a tiny city and our children are in the low end of the income charts. I have some children living in a small hotel because of inadequate housing in the area. They want to achieve, and they try to make the best of anything we have. I want them to have the opportunities to turn struggle into accomplishment. I want the smile to radiate to the next town and speak for the learning the kids are gaining.

My Project

I have requested Elapsed Time Instant Learning Centers, dry erase write on/wipe off materials, student timers, partitions, and Telling Time tic Tac Toe game to use during small group direct instruction of Elapsed Time, and also during independent practice of the skills taught during direct instruction. If I dropped you in a can of red paint, you would come out red. If I dropped you in a country with a foreign language, you would learn that language. If I immerse your brain and body in strategies that excite your bones, then learning will take place. If I keep you in that excited state in a manner that makes you comfortable you will succeed and want more. I WANT MY 4th GRADERS TO BE EXCITED!!!! I want them to learn. I want them to succeed!

The trend for the last four years of standardized testing has been well below benchmark for elapsed time in Math.

I would love for these kids to break that barrier with full immersion into the topic. I want my students to be able to say yes that was my class that surpassed the trend and turn it around, boys(and girls) and full speed ahead!
