My Students

Technology ROCKS & we often find & use online text, but printed books in our hands SMELL good! There's nothing like the power of print, the chance to reread, and the personal responsibility of taking care or owning a book! We would love a non-fiction library in our classroom to support our learning.

We are a high poverty school which surveyed parents/students and found that we need reading materials at home and at school.

We started a "Love of Reading" program school-wide, to grow vocabulary, read MORE, and begin a habit of reading. Diverse students, ranging from 2nd gr. reading level to 5th, need to learn to read informational text/skills that will help them become literate, responsible citizens!

My Project

Whew! Shopping was tough--too many great books to choose from! The resources I chose will extend & support what we currently learn in the 4th gr. core standards. We can set out "unit" reading bins and "interest" bins. Students will expand vocabulary and knowledge base, build background knowledge, or be motivated to read for enjoyment, which creates that lifelong love of learning habit.

Students have online resources at their fingertips!

Creating diverse life-long learners (readers) who have many opportunities to grow in knowledge of the world around them, is crucial to our future generations. They will become our "movers" and "shakers", our scientists and creators of new ideas. Exposure to quality print now impacts society later!
