My Students

Do you remember what it was like to have your teacher read aloud a story to the whole class? It was fun and exciting, but the only problem was....it was hard to see the pictures from where you were sitting! My students have that same problem. The good news is that there is now a solution!

I teach a group of 25 first graders at a high poverty elementary school in Missouri.

My students are very vibrant and energetic! Recently, our students experienced a huge trauma. An EF5 tornado ripped apart our city, our schools, our homes, and our lives. My students are very positive and are really bouncing back from this tragedy. Our school is nearly fixed; there are signs of rebuilding everywhere. School is the one constant in my student's lives. That's why they deserve to have the best education there is to offer.

My Project

An Elmo Teacher's Tool Document Camera will allow my students to experience read alouds in a whole new way. I will use it to project the pictures in the books I read on the SmartBoard in our classroom. This way, no one ever has to miss out on any part of the story again. This document camera will also extremely help the visual learners in my classroom. Not only will I be able to project books on the SmartBoard, I will be able to project art projects we are making, workbook pages, and any other item that I would like the whole class to see.

It will be a positive in their life during this time of serious hardship. It will also help to show my students that something good CAN come out of this bad time we're all going through. It's the extra spark of hope that they could really use.
