Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

We are facing increased reading standards in our schools and English language learners are falling farther behind. We need your help to supply the technology needed to close the gap and allow non-English speaking kindergarten students the opportunity to succeed at a high level of fluency in English.

I serve the bilingual/ESL kindergarten students of our community.

We are a school that serves a lower socio- economic community with a large non-English speaking group of students in the state of Texas. Most of my students will never have the opportunity to use a computer outside of school. My whole class qualifies for free lunch services, just to give you an idea of the home life and poverty level. My goal as a kindergarten teacher is to enrich the lives of my students through technology to broaden their perspective of the world they live in.

My Project

The technology I'm requesting is one component of a plan to provide an interactive learning experiences for my students through the implementation of an interactive white board. The notebook will provide the greatest amount of flexibility and portability.

In one word, literacy.

The main purpose for this project is to increase the level of literacy comprehension in my English language learners. My goal is to establish a strong foundation in my students to take into first grade. I believe high reading skills are the answer to narrowing the achievement gap between native English speakers and English language learners.
