My students need a video camera to produce video files to see some progress from point one to the next, since paper and pencil does not work. Their parents too, can witness their progress.

My Students

One thing that keeps us all going is "Hope." But, sometimes it is difficult to hope when progress seems slow or non existent. Although, not very obvious ,my students DO show progress. My video files will record student performance over a period of time and try to resort hope for students and parents

I am a special education teacher in Title I in a small rural town.

Most of our students come from very low socio-economic backgrounds; many are raised by grandparents in the absence of either one or both parents. I teach a TMD class of five student ages 5-11 and a range of differing abilities including Down's, Autism and DD.

My Project

I am requesting a video camera (camcorder) to record progress of my students that cannot be captured with paper and pencil. With my students sometimes progress is slow and we feel like we are doing the same things for the longest. I have noticed that parents too, seem to loose incentive to work with kids at home since they may feel it is futile. I feel that if I could record their performance at the introduction of a lesson and then after a few weeks, the progress will be very visible. Each child will have their own video file which could be shared with the parents and be used as progress monitoring. My students an learn by watching themselves and would try harder to get it right, their parents would know that their kids can do it and would participate more in their education.

Seeing progress in students is the greatest satisfaction that any teacher could receive.

This satisfaction becomes greater when it can be shared with the students, their parents and with others around the school. This will instill confidence in my students and their parents and give them some hope at the end of tunnel.
