Have you ever heard the sound of 30 different voices reading all at once? If you are a teacher, the answer is probably "YES" but in this instance, the overwhelming and distracting sound of computer voices is preventable.
We have a close-knit school community in which parents, students and staff often come together for the good of the students we all serve and hold so dear.
The school is considered school-wide Title I, which means that an overwhelming majority of these little ones have free lunch and breakfast with us each day. They come in the doors each morning eager to learn and share with one another. As a teacher, I feel very fortunate to have found a nice neighborhood school to be a part of.
My Project
I am simply asking for one pair of headphones for every computer in our computer lab which is used by every student in the building throughout the week.
There are many wonderful software programs available to help differentiate instruction and really target the needs of students. Luckily, we have access to several terrific programs. As a reading teacher, I am particularly concerned about students who come to me each morning to improve reading fluency and comprehension. Part of the computer process is that they must listen to a story several times. Imagine if you will, how distracting it could be to hear every story all at once. Headphones would prevent Susie from realizing that Billy is reading a story far below his grade-level, and Billy would retain his dignity and self respect while continue to progress.
Donating to this project will drastically improve the delivery of technologically enhanced learning in our school.
Students will be able to focus better and learn more when they can HEAR only their own computers! Since our state is soon mandating standardized testing to be computerized, it is vital that we have the best conditions possible to continue to be a National Blue Ribbon winning school. I will be extremely grateful and so will our students.
