âBeing disabled should not mean being disqualified from having access to every aspect of life." -- Emma Thompson. My students with special needs can and want to learn; I just have to provide creative ways to facilitate their success.
The students that access my sensory classroom are generally students with special needs ranging from autism to developmental delay.
They are ALL bright, engaging and curious and often need an alternative setting, materials or methods to learn to their full potential. At our Title 1 school, providing these students with full access to the academic curriculum is a priority and a commitment.
My Project
My students need manipulatives large enough to catch their interest from across the room and that stimulate their senses. The jumbo magnetic letters and numbers will enable my students to meet their sensory needs while addressing academic standards. The building shapes will allow my students that need a "safe place" to create that space while also reinforcing their colors and shapes.
Donations to this project would provide a solid foundation to the sensory-rich learning environment these students need.
By laying this foundation, donors will not only be contributing to the students success now, but also providing them a solid academic basis for the future.
