My Students

Learning a new language is challenging. Daily my students must practice new vocabulary. They must write and use the new vocabulary. Daily we do vocabulary meaning drills, and as the year advances we will be conjugating each verb we learn. It takes much practice to master these new skills.

My students attend a public junior high school.

We have a moderate low income population. There are between 100-130 students in 9th grade Spanish class yearly. We recycle on a daily basis our used papers. Using white boards would help to lessen the cost and create less waste for our class.

My Project

Learning to conjugate a verb is a difficult skill for my students. Having the white boards and using colored markers for the conjugated endings would make the vocabulary conjugations more visual for my students. As a class we must practice vocabulary meanings and conjugations on a daily basis. We use our papers completely up before they are recycled. Yet on average we use 3-4 sheets per week per student. This totals to around 15,000 sheets of paper per year. Over two-thirds of this could be eliminated with the funding of this project.

The novelty in being able to use the white boards would enhance the learning for many students.

Using vivid colors would make the word ending changes more apparent to the students. Learning a tough skill can be enhanced and resources saved for over 100 students daily if this project is funded.
