Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Ever struggled with reading? Dyslexics do..but that does not mean that they don't have the ability to learn. Because their brains see the world differently they need reading materials that engage their wonderful unique brains; these materials allow that opportunity.

My students are the best in world, of course I would say that, I'm their teacher.

But, do you know how Dyslexics have changed our world? Hint: E=mc2. The majority of sucessful adults, who are Dyslexic, state that the worse time for them was in Jr. High and Sr. High School. The struggle with reading is not just contained to one subject; after all, you need to know how to read in Math and Science. I need to keep them interested in reading and to not give up when it seems so hard. Looking at those faces after getting through a paragraph can be so rewarding and I want it to continue. These students have a view of the world like no other and they express this everyday through their responses and questions they have after being presented with information. We are a minority low income public school with students who may struggle to make it to school everyday. Despite it all they show up which means they want to learn if given the chance.

My Project

Not only will these electronic readers allow Dyslexic students to self pace, but will give students the option to have their favorite books read to them so that they can still get the enjoyment that comes from reading a book. As confidence builds, students will start to read on their own or alternate between the two options. Students will also be able to check them out and take them to other classes during the day so that there is always something for them to read. Not only will these devices expose them to new technology but will increase student confidence, reading comprehension and decoding skills.

BIG IMPACT for those who DREAM BIG.

Students will not only have the flexibility to take these readers with them to other classes during the day, but will help build the confidence of those who are already diagnosed with reading difficulties. The impact on campus and for the students will be BIG. With new technology and various ways to learn means excitement.
