My Students

WANT TO MEET THE NEEDS OF TODAY’S LEARNERS? Blogs, wikis, apps...technology has changed. Our networked global society has changed. We want to challenge and engage our students while modeling and preparing them for our changing world.

In our Midwest state, Educational Funding has been cut to work towards balancing the budget.

The families we serve feel the economy struggles also with a rising 86% students considered poverty level. We are a transit school with a mobility rate of 45.6%. As a center based school for ELL (English Language Learners), we are able to learn about the world around us not by looking through a window but looking into a face in our classroom. We serve some very special students. These students may come from troubling home lives. School is a positive, safe, and reliable environment. It is a place where students can reach their full potential!

My Project

Through the use of the iPad2, students could work in small groups on letter and number formation, identification and letter sounds. It can also be used as a listening centers, for math and reading games, recording their reading or video taping a science project. The number of learning opportunities these iPad2's could offer is unbelievable. There is a number of educational apps available. They could be used as a computer, notepad, or e-reader for a picture book. As a teacher, an iPad2 could be use for assessment purposes to see growth and help drive instruction. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have assessment information at the tip of the finger at all times? Students progress could be data driven and skill based at all times for all learners.

Please consider helping our class receive an iPad2 as we continue to prepare our students for the changing world.

They are not hesitant to learn and try new things in Kindergarten. These students will not have an opportunity to try an iPad at home as many of our families do not have a computer. The educational opportunities through this new technology is limitless.
