When you were in your Social Studies class, wouldn't you have liked to hear songs from the past or see movie clips from the actual event? How cool would it have been to hear Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech at the march on Washington or to hear Billy Holiday sing "Strange Fruit" while you were writing a five paragraph essay on the lynching of African Americans? I need a computer and projector for my severely under-resourced school in Brooklyn, NY. My school has no way for me to show streaming videos or play music or sound bytes for my students. I try and provide an authentic learning experience for the kids, but photographs can only touch us so much. I want to stimulate their ears as well. I want them to see people getting hosed during the Civil Rights Movement and watch as the Berlin Wall crumbled. The school system pays for internet service yet I have no computer in my classroom to utilize this great resource. I need you to help me get a projector that will enable me to screen PowerPoint presentations, show streaming videos and play music for my students. This valuable technology will enrich my classroom, strengthen my students' understanding of the importance of history and hopefully inspire them to make the changes they deem necessary in the world. Additionally, students will be able to access the projector to teach their peers: we do projects where the students teach for a day. By having this projector, students could create a slideshow or presentation to view for others to learn. Please help me help them!
