This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Every year we take 150 fourth graders to Great basin National Park.

Our school is a Title One, free or reduced lunch campus.

Our parents are very hard working and supportive, but can't always provide the enrichment their children need. This is the fourteenth year for our "Ely Trip". The students look forward to it every year.

My Project

We spend lots of time on the bus as we visit the different stops on our tour. We start by seeing Lehman Caves. Then we progress to Ward Charcoal Ovens. We cook hot dogs in a local park, and hit the sack. Early the next morning we take a trip back into the past on the Northern Nevada Railroad. We round out our trip at Great Basin National Park. Whew! Time to head home.

Our goal as educators is to expose our students to as many positive experiences as possible.

We want our kids to grow up to be responsible adults, who are respectful of the environment. This trip exposes them to a rural setting they may never see on their own.
