Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A student's journey is filled with ups and downs, but every moment that passes is an opportunity to grow and learn. Every student is searching for his or her place in this crazy world.

My students have experienced a lot more of this world than anyone would wish upon their own children.

We are an alternative school for students who are on probation or who have previously gone through the juvenile justice system. Much of the public is quick to label these students as "bad kids" because of this affiliation. However, every student in my class, without exception, has experienced one or multiple traumatic experiences that have led them to the point they are at. When young people are forced to deal with the hardest things life has to offer at such a young age, they are left reeling in the uncertainty and searching for reality. The traditional school setting is no longer an option for many of them. Others are simply looking for a different schooling experience. We use the Big Picture learning model to help each individual student identify their interests and gain inspiration to explore their own education.

My Project

I am requesting twenty copies of the "StrengthsFinder 2.0" book. Many of my students struggle with self-esteem while others are simply searching for their niche. This book helps readers identify the good in themselves in a world that is quick to label them as incapable.

I can tell students all day that they are capable and strong.

I can try every day to instill confidence in them through my words and actions. But my attempts are futile if left on their own. My students are bright. My students are strong. They need to discover it for themselves. Your contribution would dramatically impact their lives. Thank you for considering the futures of these talented individuals.
