My Students

"Prepare today for what is to come tomorrow". This quote was delivered during the commencement ceremony when I was getting my MBA. I believe all teachers are guiding future leaders in their classrooms. Our school has cut the budget on copies made per classroom, and our students are suffering.

Our students a very determined to excel scholastically, but with the recent budget cuts they are now focusing more on doing just enough, than going above and beyond.

We are an urban school located in the most competitive district in South Florida, Broward County. For the last four years the students have given their all to achieve the highest possible mark on the state-wide assessment. Although the recent cuts have put a damper on their learning process, the students have exhausted all resources and were able to realize their goal by receiving a school grade of "A" on the FCAT. However, it disappoints me that our students had to provide their own paper and ink cartridges in order to receive the extra practice they wanted to make sure they were fully prepared for the test. Many parents also chipped in by making copies, while at work, for our class.

My Project

I am requesting for the students a printer, printer paper and ink cartridges for the classroom. With these supplies they can rest assured that we will have enough to get them through the year with all the material needed to be comfortable enough to know they will pass the FCAT again this year. Also, with these supplies we will be able to provide material for our 6 week FCAT training camp that was forced to end because of the budget cuts. This camp is provided to all students taking the FCAT and is a 1 hour intense intervention of each subject. The benefits far outweigh the cost in this activity, and hopefully with your help we can start the program back up this year.

I have been teaching for 6 years, and every year I get a new set of students that keep my interest going.

However, every year we also lose some type of resource (IE. copies, computers, books, etc.). This year I am trying to give back a resource rather than have one taken away. With the completion of this project the students will be able to work to their highest potential, and succeed.

This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
