My Students

"Only where children gather is there any real chance of fun."(Mignon McLaughlin, journalist and author). I agree. Our place to gather and have fun AND learn is our carpet but it is so dirty, grungy, and stained. We share books, stories, laughter, fun, dancing, and everything in between.

My children are 4 and 5 year Olds that embrace learning with every ounce of their being.

Our school has a large poverty rate (ranging from 64-74% yearly). My children attend a public school that is only grades Kindergarten-2nd. It is a very transient clientle. Our school zone is one in which we have many homeless families, poverty stricken families, and few middle class families. The majority of our students are on free/reduced lunch. Having said this, this does NOT IMPACT OUR LEARNING but IT DOES IMPACT OUR FUNDING. We do not have large corporations or even families that are able/willing to help classrooms with extra needs. This rug will make our day just a little more magical. It will give them a "magical place" to call their own in our learning community. It will give them a place to read, to learn to write and spell, a place to listen to stories, and a place to learn about history. This rug is our passage to learning.

My Project

This rug will provide so many opportunities, there are too many to list within this space * learn colors * learn to work as teams by working with friends on same color * give us a clean, unstained place to lay our heads while listening to a story * give us a clean, sanitary place to write or read or create stories * gives us a place to learn about history * unlimited uses in math: graphing, colors, addition, subtraction, grouping, sorting, patterning, counting, and MUCH, MUCH more!! * Language: gives us squares to place pictures to sequence a story: use the squares to put letters to form words: use squares to identify character, setting, plot, etc: use the squares to graph/contrast characters:children can put words in each square to form sentences AND MUCH, MUCH MORE!! * Communication skills: gives each child a space to learn in, listen to speaker, share stories, and expand their horizons * Calendar: Children can put numbers in squares and make large calendar and then read data.

The impact of this rug is phenomenal!!

We would have a clean, sanitary learning carpet that my children can embrace learning (and not germs). This carpet is cross-curricular and can be used in EVERY area of the learning environment. This carpet will also be used in my classroom for an after school learning program which I teach for those children struggling in the regular classroom, SO, this carpet will help not only my classroom, but others in the building.
