The human body is fearfully and wonderfully made. Most people do not appreciate the amazing detail in their body. I want my students to know their body, respect it, be awed by it, and therefore take care of it.
Our middle school is a rural high-needs, high- poverty school.
Our town has a poverty level at about 80%. Many of our students are on free and reduced lunch.
My students really enjoy science if I make it fun. I do not believe in just standing up front lecturing, or having them work out of a book. We do a lot of hands-on activities. 6 different human body part models will really be great hands-on tools for their learning.
My Project
The human body can be really fun to study. Unfortunately, we really cannot dissect ourselves, so models are an excellent way to learn about the body parts. I have a full sized skeleton model in my classroom, but have nothing else to use for hands-on learning with studying the human body.
A super skin, life size heart, life size brain, ear, kidney, and eye models will show the students up close how different organs function, and work together as systems and make your entire organism. Several of these models can also be used when we study other areas of science. For example, when we study refraction of light, we can use the eye model. When we study sound waves, we can use the ear model. So, these models may be used several times a year during different science topics.
My students really appreciate when people and businesses like you support their science education.
They are often stunned when I tell them that the donor was from hundreds of miles away and has never even heard of our town before.
It really encourages me as a science teacher to see that people care about our future adults and are willing to support their education. It makes it all worth while. Thank you.
