My Students

Have you ever been to Wisconsin? Our weather is extremely unpredictable, however the show must go on. My students need golf materials that can be used indoors and outdoors depending upon the weather.

My students are 7th through 12th graders in rural Wisconsin.

They are very energetic and fun-loving individuals who welcome the opportunity to experience new things. My physical education class has been a great outlet for them to release some of that energy in sports. Only a handful of them have ever been presented with the opportunity to try golf. This is a problem that I hope we can fix together. I am able to provide my students with an introduction to golf, when the weather permits. I am unable to create an indoor golf atmosphere for them to practice and challenge one another. The school itself has a student body population of just over 400. It seems like everyone knows everyone else. The sense of community within the school is very evident from the moment you arrive. Visitors are greeted with inviting smiles from students and faculty alike.

My Project

I have requested 8 portable mats and 8 sets of Birdie Balls. The mats will allow us to practice driving, hitting, and chipping on any surface, including the gym floor. The birdie balls are a really unique resource in that they simulate the true flight of a golf ball, going a much shorter distance. When a student tees off with a birdie ball, their shot will travel just as it normally would. This allows students to reflect upon their drive to determine if any stroke refinements are needed. I can set-up targets for the students to practice hitting toward. The instant feedback the birdie balls provide are going to be a great resource for my students.

By funding this project, donors are allowing these students, and those to come, the opportunity to experience golf in all weather conditions.

You are providing them with a real experience they may not otherwise get. Together, we can begin exposing these Wisconsin students to the lifetime sport of golf year round.
