My students need to be able to share ideas, solutions, proofs, and problem solving strategies in an easy way, in Algebra and Geometry class, by using an Elmo document camera.

My Students
Do you have any idea how frustrating it is to WANT to use technology but to have so many barriers to use it? My students and I both need to get away from using an overhead projector in math class. The bulbs continually burn out, and the focus and quality of the image is poor.
My students are amazing 8th graders in California.
We are a high poverty middle school with a strong emphasis on academics. We create a safe environment where students learn to Be Safe, Respectful, Responsible and to Be an Ally. These are the most respectful middle school students I have ever worked with, and there is not the same level of defiance I have seen at other schools.
My Project
My students quietly accept the sub-par image they see on the overhead projector. It is sad and depressing. Only one part of the glass actually focuses so students can only view a few lines of whatever we are doing. We need a better way to view our work and students need to see a higher level of technology in the classroom. They must be inspired to pursue the STEM disciplines and I feel embarrassed with the lack of technology in my classroom. They deserve better!
I am a talented teacher.
I am a National Board Certified Teacher, I was County Teacher of the Year in 2007 and I am now finalist for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science teaching. HOWEVER, if you came in my room, you would see a weakness in the way I use technology. Please help me do even better for my students by supporting my need to use a document camera in my class. Thank you!
