My Students

"Contrast is what makes photography interesting," said Conrad Hall. As yearbook staff members, our job is to capture the unique characteristics of every individual in our school. We need a new camera with better resolution to enhance our picture quality for this year's book, as well as future books.

We live in a small town in Arkansas where our population is approximately 2,000.

Poverty is very apparent. There are limited job opportunities here because of the lack of industry. Many of our residents are retirees, living on fixed incomes, while many others rely on government assisted-programs. Sixty-three percent of the student population is on the free or reduced lunch program. We, as the yearbook staff, are appreciative that they can even purchase yearbooks. We need to be able to provide an outstanding yearbook for these citizens who are spending their hard-earned money. Currently, we have an inexpensive seven mega-pixel camera that provides us with minimum quality pictures. Most of our student activities such as pep rallies, ballgames, homecomings, and graduations are hosted in the gymnasium. The camera we currently have is incapable of capturing quality action shots in these settings.

My Project

These resources will allow our students to develop a sense of school pride. Our students struggle with low self esteem and a lack of school pride. However, our students are still excited about receiving their yearbooks. Having a better quality camera will enable the yearbook staff members to picture more of the student body in the yearbook in better quality pictures. The first thing most people do when yearbooks are distributed is to look through and find how many times they are pictured. Each time they see their picture, they get a boost to their self esteem. Essentially our yearbooks unite our student body into one "family", instead of being individuals who just happen to attend the same school.

Donations to our project will enable us to provide a higher-quality yearbook for our students, which will allow them to share high school memories with their children.

This will encourage not only our students, but also the citizens of our town, to purchase more yearbooks and help us with sales. Creating an yearbook is not cheap; we do not have the funds to purchase a camera of this quality, but we do need it tremendously. We would greatly appreciate financial help with this purchase.
