Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Almost everyone can understand the power of immediate feedback. Improvement lies at the fingertips, misconceptions can be cleared right away, and learning at a higher level becomes much more feasible.
Students scoring "proficient" or above: Math: 1.6%, English: 12.4%.
Percent of the student body on free and reduced-price lunch: 77% . The numbers of this south central public school indicate a real need for a teacher to be able to visually demonstrate how to go about working out equations, or how to read word problems, in an engaging and captivating manner.
My Project
Keeping my students organized and on their toes is key in our chemistry class! Its easy to get lost in the abstract-- electrons, atoms, ionization energies... all are unfamiliar terms that make it easy to get confused. A document reader will allow our class to peer review students work done right then and there. This immediate feedback mechanism will encourage students to put their best work into classwork and also will build critical thinking as they analyze and determine what information is correct and incorrect.
This document reader will increase student participation and student accountability in the classroom.
My students know what is at stake -- they have undertaken the challenge of being the first at their school to pass the California State Test at a basic, advanced, or proficient level rather than far below basic as it has been for more than a decade. I want to empower them with the ability to reflect on their work immediately, and to constantly pursue more knowledge and skills.
