Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Students will work with clay and other materials to create scale model figures from history. These figures will be in reside in an environment / tableaux that reflects the time and place of that figure. Students will work in pairs, each contributing to both the figure and the environment.
Students will learn figure proportion, carving and modeling techniques, working with fabric, team work, doing research, creating initial sketches and following and meeting deadlines.
These figures will be made of both modeling (non-drying) and self-hardening clay. Many students will be able to extend this work into a claymation story, animating the figures.
This project will include all 120 juniors at Animo Venice High School. Twenty proposals will be picked for the animation part of the project.
Supplies:
1. non-hardening and self hardening clay
2. acrylic paint
3. foam core
4. brushes
This is a wonderful way for students to work with a variety of ideas and skills. The best work will be shown at a local gallery in Venice, California.
