This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

What value is the 7 in the number 317,425? What fraction of the pizza did Thomas eat? What time did you wake up this morning to come to school? Math is everywhere and I am lucky to be a math teacher!

We live in a big city in Texas.

My students have just moved to the United States from all around the world. They are all learning to speak English. I teach fourth and fifth graders in an English immersion classroom called NAC, the New Arrival Center. I have students from Spain, El Salvador, Mexico, Vietnam, and the Philippines. I teach language arts, social studies, and math. I have the best group of students and they love to learn!

My Project

I am requesting magnetic math manipulatives that I can use to introduce topics to my students. I have a magnetic dry erase board and these tools will make learning and teaching so much easier for me and my students. These magnetic base ten blocks, fractions, and clocks will allow students to manipulate them and to see what I am demonstrating better. It is important that my students have hands-on activities so they can develop their math vocabulary in English. This will help them become great problem solvers!
