This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Learning economics is of utmost importance in these uncertain economic times, but learning economics at a public school in the inner-city with minimal resources can be a daunting task for even the most bright and eager students.

Almost all of the students at my school come from low-income families, and a significant proportion of them are English Language Learners.

While their opportunities are limited by their circumstances, they come to school with excitement and purpose. Every year, they seem genuinely excited to learn about Economics and have many questions about how are country is in the economic mess it currently is in, and why their means are so limited compared to those who attend schools in the nearby hills.

My Project

In the district in which I teach, the high number of English Language Learners and the number of students who struggle with math makes it imperative that I explain things visually. Last school year, the bulb went out on the LCD projector that I used to explain the complex principles that drive our economy. The use of a whiteboard to explain these concepts is far less than functional in the digital age. The students hopelessly glared at my chicken scratch on the wall as I explained how a minimum wage might theoretically cause a surplus in the labor market, or how an economic stimulus can potentially increase demand and reinvigorate an economy. This new LCD projector I have requested, has a very long bulb life, clear projection and will help enlighten my economics students for years to come.

When American students have a stronger grasp on economic principles, they will be better-prepared citizens and stronger leaders in their communities.

I take my job very seriously, and I sincerely hope that I can find the funds to be able to do it better. Thank you so much for considering funding and LCD projector for my students..
