My Students

A picture says a thousand words. Remember your favorite teacher, your first love, your worst hairstyle? If age has caught up to you, simply turn to the book that holds all the answers: your high school yearbook. Help my students remember 2011 words and support our yearbook pictures!

The hipster, the cheerleading captain, the outcast, the nerd, the edgy artist, the outspoken, the dedicated hard worker.

These students make up my fourth block yearbook class. They are the students faced with bringing the yearbook $46,000 out of debt, and making memories that will last a lifetime for nearly 900 students. "One step closer.." -to achieving your dreams -to college -to making it big -to living your life -to making a difference -to stepping up. My students have chosen this year's theme based on the idea that their years in high school are merely a stepping stone to doing something bigger, something better, and something that matters. Having faced the reality that the yearbook has been driven into the ground the past two years, they are determined to proving that the yearbook is a project worthy of being kept around. It's now or never, because this year determines the fate of 4 years of history at Manning High.

My Project

I am requesting the camera so our students can take pictures. The camera our school owned previously was stolen from the yearbook room and our students cannot currently take pictures. We have local photographers who are dying to teach my students how to use a camera, but no camera to use. I am requesting a webcam for students to blog online. They will create podcasts letting the school know of upcoming events the yearbook is hosting, let them know how they can order their yearbook/senior ads/etc. The webcam will also be used for my IEP students in English 3 to create online webcasts similar to online blogs. I am requesting a camcorder for my yearbook staff to videotape big events and create a video memory book to place in the back of each yearbook. In addition, my drama class will be able to use this to videotape their performances and analyze their work.

This is so important to my students because they must prove to my administration that they are deserving of a yearbook.

The students working on the yearbook currently are majority juniors, and in order to have a yearbook for their senior year this is a crucial project that they must accomplish successfully. These resources will allow them to do an over-the-top job!
