My students need a kid-friendly carpet big enough for all my kinders to gather for group activities so everyone can see.

My Students

"Everybody have a seat on the carpet!" I sing this many times a day in my kindergarten class. Much learning goes on while we are gathered on the floor to hear stories, learn to read, sing, and count together. Our gathering spot has a ratty old taped-together carpet - we would love to have a new one!

I teach about 20 kindergarten children in a small high-poverty Title I school located in a rural area of North Carolina.

About 90% are on free/reduced lunch, and many have no preschool experience. They are eager to learn, and they love to meet together to try to read the morning message and see the new books or math materials I have to share.

My Project

A bright new classroom carpet would give everyone a spot to sit and participate in the group activities. The color-coded squares will make it helpful for organizing groups and the carpet will be used for counting and sorting and measuring, as well. It will also be a popular spot for them to go to for independent reading and writing and math stations.

We believe that we are building successful students who will be lifelong learners.

The kindergarten year is such an important start, and this colorful and cozy carpet will provide a place for meaningful activities and increase the academic achievement of this diverse group of little learners.
