Our population includes six special education classrooms, two autistic classes as well as our regular education K-3 classes. We are a high-needs school with 90% of our students receiving free lunch.
A total of 475+ students visit the library for 40 minutes each week. Library lessons enrich and extend classroom literacy and research experiences.
The purpose of this proposal is to acquire a digital keyboard and a set of percussion instruments to support library literacy program initiatives. The librarian will be a participant (playing the keyboard) as well as an instructor and "conductor.? The following are sample lesson overviews:
- Use music and movement to help children "feel" the rhythm of language. Combine movement and the playing of instruments to accompany reading and singing of nursery rhymes, poems, and children's songs. Culminating activities include writing our own poetry and musical accompaniments.
- Associate music with setting, action and character -- "Peter and the Wolf" style.
Our first Reader's Theater productions to incorporate music and rhythm will be: "Where the Wild Things Are"(Grades K-1), "Slappy Hooper"(Grade 2) and ?A Tribute to Martin Luther King" (Grade 3). As a culminating activity, we will write our own Reader's Theater play and musical accompaniments.
Thank you for considering this proposal. The cost of a Rhythm Band Set for 25 Players and a Digital Keyboard (61 keys) is $479, including shipping and fulfillment. details» |
