This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love basketball. I've selected a mystery book about basketball to get them hooked on a series of children's books called "Cam Jansen." When we read this book together, they are going to want to read the rest of the series on their own! We are going to play basketball too!

We live in a big city in Texas.

I teach fourth and fifth graders. I teach language arts, math, and social studies. All of my students are new to the United States. They are all learning to speak English. My students are eager to learn and are very kind to one another. I am proud to be their teacher.

My Project

I am requesting copies of a Cam Jansen Basketball Mystery book so each student will have their own copy. We will read the story together. It will be a great way to build their English vocabulary. I will make this unit more meaningful by letting the kids play basketball at recess with our two new basketballs. I will take lots of pictures of the kids reading, writing, playing basketball, and acting out scenes from the story and display the photos on our new digital picture frame. My goal is to get the kids hooked on the Cam Jansen series so they will want to read more books in the series and more mysteries.

"Slam Dunk For Reading" is important because it will help my kids have fun reading.

They will learn English vocabulary and they will enjoy their time playing basketball. Our classroom has a family feeling and your donation will help students bond with one another during a wonderful learning experience. We will be able to use these materials for years to come. My students are very appreciative and will be grateful for the gifts they receive!
