My Students
Do you remember eagerly waiting to hear or read the next chapter of a book? Or a teacher read aloud? The excitement builds. The world of reading comes alive to elementary readers when they are given access to quality literature.
My students are hard workers and never want to give up.
Our school is economically, socially, and ethnically diverse. We have over 90% of our students receiving free/reduced lunch. In my classroom, I have 23 students from all over the world. 5 different languages are spoken by my students and for many of them English is not their first language. They enjoy math and writing, but they especially love reading. Many of them have struggled hard to make it to 4th grade and I want them to have as much as they can.
My Project
These students will benefit greatly by getting books. Their minds will be opened to new worlds and they will be exposed to many different genres. They will also have a better opportunity when they participate in the Battle of the Books Competition that is held school-wide. The books fly off the shelves all year long and if our class had it's own set, the students would have a better opportunity at reading them all.
Obtaining these books for my students will make a big impact on their learning and will give them a better opportunity to learn about kids with other backgrounds and to possibly win the Battle of the Books.
