If it weren't for the humble paintbrush, some of the world's greatest artists might have never discovered their amazing talents. The simplest of supplies can make the greatest difference in the art classroom, especially for those students who cannot afford to buy their own.
We are a public high school with a diverse student body that is growing with each school year.
Our students are ninth through twelfth grade (ages 14 to 18). We have nearly 3,000 students, including kids with special needs as well as mentally and physically challenged students. Ours is the only high school in our town, and we offer a full range of classes and electives.
In recent years, the effects of the economy have become apparent in our community, making it difficult for many to afford the voluntary class fees for electives classes. Sadly, this makes it difficult to purchase all of the supplies necessary for a diverse range of art projects.
My Project
My students need paints and brushes. With these resources, I can stretch our voluntary art class fee funds further, making sure that all students have access to quality art materials, as well as a rich and diverse range of projects and lessons. As the economy makes the future more uncertain for those in our community, we will still be able to ensure that our students' education remains a quality experience.
This is important to me because basic supplies, such as brushes and paint, are absolutely essential in an art classroom.
Having the basics covered to start the new school year will take away some of the stress of collecting the voluntary class fees.
