2nd Grade Math Made Fun and Hands-On!

My students need math manipulatives, such as blocks, geoboards, place value games, 24 journals, and math books, tied to the state standards and district adopted curriculum.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember learning math through pages of worksheets or with exciting hands-on materials like puzzles and geometry blocks? Help make math the most exciting subject for my second graders!

I teach 2nd grade to an amazing group of low-income students in California.

Though over 95% of the students at our school receive free lunch, they are showing amazing growth and working very hard to learn each day. Last year, the school was excited to learn that we had some of the largest academic gains of any elementary school in the entire school district.

My Project

Though we have had a lot of success, we still have a very long way to go to give these students the excellent education they deserve! In the classroom, students are taught from the district adopted curriculum, which is based on the state standards. However, one of the struggles in my classroom is making sure all students are on grade level in math. These hands-on materials, such as blocks, geoboards and math books, help supplement the district adopted curriculum and make learning concrete and enjoyable.

Tough concepts, like place value and geometry, call for engaging manipulative, like foam blocks and puzzle games.

With some key math hands-on materials, like blocks, geoboards, and math books, my students will be able to master key second grade standards and will develop a love of math! They will also be able to use their math notebooks to solve complex word problems through pictures and stories. There are bins to store the materials. Your help will ensure a year of success for my students.
