Relationships are crucial to a student's success. A school can create and build relationships with students "through support systems, through caring about students, by promoting student achievement, by being role models, by insisting upon successful behaviors for school."(Payne p.111)
Our school is labeled as "high poverty".
We are a diverse community. Everyday the students come to school and know they are in a safe place. They are in a place of consistency. They come knowing they are loved. At school they find peace and comfort within our classroom community.
My Project
Having an easel in the classroom will complete our class meeting area and improve the students' learning experience. The easel is used as the main teaching tool for all whole group instruction. It is the focal point. When we gather on the carpet and have close proximity to each other, the students are more engaged and connected to the teaching taking place. They learn behaviors that result in success in their learning.
When the students feel safe, successful, and comfortable, seeds are planted.
They feel confident. They begin to build a LOVE for learning and begin becoming lifelong learners. Creating this community at a young age will make a difference in the rest of their educational experiences.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
