My Students

Students can learn and show understanding best by listening to others and participating in class discussions, such as book clubs, and not just writing answers. Listening to recordings of themselves reading can also help their fluency.

I have 23 third grade students.

I teach an inclusion class with combined general education and special education students. Some of the students have an easier time expressing themselves verbally, and struggle with writing. These recorders will help students show understanding of the material.

My Project

My students need 6 digital voice recorders with batteries and a battery charger so they can have deep discussions about textbook chapters, reading book club discussions, and independent reading for fluency. We will be able to use these recorders during our science and social studies periods. Rather than writing down answers from the end of the chapter, students can discuss what they have learned and ask questions about anything they didn't understand. We will also be able to use these recorders during our book club discussions. The children have an opportunity to discuss the books they are reading with their book clubs, and we can record the discussions to check for understanding. We will also be able to use these recorders when we read independently. Children will have an opportunity to read a book using the recorder and listen to it later to hear their fluency. Students will be given an opportunity to borrow the recorders to use at home or even share with their parents the discussions they had in school.

Students will be able to use these recorders to help with showing their understanding, learning how to have deep and meaningful conversations, improving their reading skills, and sharing what they are learning with their families.
