My Students
Do you remember not being able to connect to a book you were reading in class? Well my students are lacking novels they can read in small groups. They love to participate in literature circles, but we do not have the novels to do so.
My students are eager to read books as a class.
Unfortunately, all we have is a literature textbook that contains stories that are a little too challenging. They enjoy breaking out into groups and reading stories. I would love for them to be able to read novels that have been picked out for each grade level.
My Project
I teach 6th, 7th and 8th grade. These books will allow each grade to read their own novel. Students will be given the opportunity to read novels in small groups. While reading these books students will break down the literary elements that they discover in each book. 6th graders will determine the characters in Diary of a Wimpy Kid. 7th graders will find the plot in Mr. Popper's Penguins. While 8th graders will unveil the conflict in Flipped.
These resources will allow students the opportunity to develop a love of reading books.
By reading books as a class their confidence in reading will grow as they discover how wonderful reading is.
