My Students

Obesity is our nation's greatest problem. As a science teacher, I teach food and nutrition because it is part of our curriculum. My students, living in the heart of NY, often get very little exercise.

As physical education programs are being scaled down and since my students often times cannot afford to participate in other sports, their physical activity is sitting in an apartment playing video games.

I would like to get pedometers to encourage my kids to get up, get out, and get active.

My Project

With the pedometers I can teach them about exercise and health. I can use them to motivate my students to be active. I know that when I wore a pedometer I was motivated to walk more and to challenge myself. I would like to see this same motivation in my students. I know that with this program I can inspire my students to be more health conscious. Help me fight back against inactivity and obesity by providing this valuable tool in raising awareness.

After the project these pedometers would become the property of the student in the hopes of encouraging them to commit to a life long goal of good health and an active lifestyle.
