This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Have you ever had the experience of stepping back from a piece of work and being in awe of what you have been able to produce? Next year, I will focus heavily on multiple representations of functions and my hope is for students to have this experience as often as possible.

My students are creative, intelligent and hard working, in short, they are amazing.

I have had the pleasure of working at this school for the last five years. Because we are such a small school I have been able to loop with students and teach them for multiple years. The level of individual and whole class growth has been inspiring. My students work hard and have developed into strong students. Our school's API ranking has continued to rise year after year, but more importantly, our students' curiosity, desire to learn, and commitment to graduating from college has grown exponentially. I have worked hard to develop a classroom culture that is student centered and student driven. I would like to continue this trend next year and I hope to capitalize on student creativity more than in previous years. To this end, I need an infusion of basic art supplies to ensure that my students have this opportunity. Unfortunately the current budget limits what supplies I can offer to students.

My Project

My students are being victimized by the economy on two fronts. At school, the state of California has slashed the education budget and this year there are limited funds for additional supplies. At home, many families are struggling to make ends meet and school supplies are an extra expense that simply can't be purchased. Your donation of supplies will give my students some relief from the financial pressures that they are feeling. Your donation will be evidence to my students that their education is a worthy investment. The gift of markers, colored pencils, construction paper, and rulers, will allow my students to explore the beauty underlying mathematical relationships in Algebra I and Algebra II. Students will graph linear, quadratic, and exponential relationships and create posters to decorate our classroom and our school. Students will create guidebooks and mathematical art to further explore and strengthen their understanding.

Please consider donating to this project.

The supplies you purchase will be shared among the three math teachers at our school and all 200 students at our school will benefit from your gift. In tough economic times like these, it is unfortunate that education budgets are put on the chopping block. Your donation will help mitigate effects of these cuts.
