My Students

How can I learn when my body won't stay in one spot very long?

I teach second graders on a military base in Texas.

Our school is a Title 1 school with over 70% of students on reduced or free lunch. All of my students have at least one parent in the Army with about 1/2 of my class with a parent deployed overseas.

My Project

My students predominately consist of ones with ADD, ADHD or another disorder. Having my classroom set up with alternative seating will afford my students the opportunity to sit in an environment that is more inviting and will assist them instead of hinder their learning. Studies shows that allowing students to have their body engaged will have their brain engaged as well.

The use of stability balls as well as other alternative seating has been shown through research to have a positive impact on behavior.

These balls will help improve their ability to pay attention and concentrate as their mind will be constantly working just to sit. Please help me provide a safe and encouraging environment for my students.
