My Students
What motivated you to prepare for college? Many students do not have role models to do well in school and can't dream of attending college. These books tell the story of three inner-city boys who made a pact to graduate college and medical school. The dictionary and thesaurus will build college vocabulary.
Our school is 80% economically disadvantaged and this class reflects the diversity of our school.
My students are average to high achievers who will be working on study skills and finding their college dream this year. They are vibrant, energetic, and with the right direction in middle school will go on to share that energy with the world.
My Project
My students need the books and CD The Pact: Three Young Men Make a Promise and Fulfill a Dream, as motivation to choose friends wisely and persevere academically. The dictionaries and thesaurus are for building college-level vocabulary. The three doctors, Sampson Davis, Rameck Hunt and George Jenkins tell their story of growing up in Newark, NJ projects, and how they inspired and motivated each other in high school, college and medical school. In addition to their medical practices they are motivational speakers who travel the world inspiring youth to make a pact with like-minded friends and "Beat the Streets". I hope to empower my students with their message of self-reliance and friendship that continues in adulthood.
These books share a common story with many of my students & offer another ending to the school vs.
streets debate so many face, with the positive ending of the characters becoming accomplished doctors who reach back to youth in similar circumstances. How powerful to fund the inspiration that encourages 2 classes totaling 56 students to attend college!
