This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The tree house was spinning. Faster and faster. Then everything was still. Absolutely still." This is how Jack and Annie's adventures begin in the popular children series "The Magic Tree House." Children get hooked on the books and can't put them down!

I have a combined fourth and fifth grade class.

We live in a big city in Texas. I teach language arts, math, and social studies. All of my students are learning English and many are economically disadvantaged. Our favorite time of the day is shared reading when I read aloud a chapter from a chapter book. The kids love this time together. We love reading, writing, and learning about authors.

My Project

I am requesting Magic Tree House books. After I read the first book in the series, Dinosaurs Before Dark, the kids are hooked. Those are the books that they want to check out in the library. The problem is that there is never enough books for everyone. I would love to have our own set in our classroom library. We know that the more the kids read, the better readers they become. The books are fun and have great vocabulary for my ESL learners. These books will be read in class and be sent home for their take-home reading logs. I would also like digital book marks so the kids can track their reading time. The wonderful thing about this series is that the author, Mary Pope Osborne, has also made non-fiction companion books. Therefore, my students will be reading fiction and non-fiction. I will have a "tree house" full of successful readers!

Many of my students do not have books at home, so this will be a wonderful gift to them. You will help them become better readers and better students. These books will be used for many years by future students. We thank you for your kindness and support!
