My Students

The iPad has been called a game changer in special education. But that's only if you have one!

My students range in age from 4-22 and come from about a dozen surrounding communities.

All of them have multiple disabilities including developmental delay and communication disorder. Most have use wheelchairs and have medical issues. My students are some of the hardest working most joyful children you could ever hope to meet, but it takes a little extra to help them succeed.

My Project

An iPad 2 that would be shared by myself and the Speech Language Pathologist could be used to bring motivating educational content and communication opportunities to students in my classroom and in other special education classrooms in our program. There's an app for just about everything and that includes using the iPad as an access device to use computers, as a speech device and to teach life skills. An iPad 2 would allow so many of my students to participate in using a varied assortment of educational apps while using something that will be the envy of their typical peers.

You can make a difference in the lives of our students but giving them the gift of education and communication through an iPad 2.

Between this teacher and our Speech Therapist nearly 50 children with multiple and severe special needs will have a new way to learn.
