My Students

Have you ever been in a science classroom that did not have some basic supplies for labs? The equipment listed in this proposal are some basic tools that I would regularly use in labs.

I teach sixth and seventh grade science in a high-need, high-poverty rural school district.

Our town has a 78 to 80% poverty level. Many of my students are on free and reduced lunch. Our state and county school district are going through a terrible budget crises, and cannot afford even basic equipment for science classrooms. I have had to borrow from other teachers and even they have run out, or their equipment is broken.

My Project

Our students and parents expect their teachers to have basic and up to date working equipment for their child's education. I cannot do some basic hands-on labs with my students due to this lack of equipment. We do every from examining rocks and minerals, plants and insects, working with simple chemicals, to dissecting owl pellets and other materials. We are very limited right now due to lack of equipment. All of the labs we do teach the scientific method which is required on the Florida Comprehensive Achievement Test for Science.

Your help and support for this proposal will allow my students to do some hands-on labs that they were not able to do this year.
