This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Wires, resistors, and batteries - oh my! My students have been building simple, series, and parallel circuits. Now they are ready to advance their circuit building! Using a robotics kit they can learn advance circuitry, develop critical thinking and practice problem solving skills.

My students live in one of the toughest neighborhoods in the country.

In spite of the myriad of challenges my students face outside of school, in the classroom they are extremely excited about building their own projects. Often, it is difficult for them to see the connection between a class assignment and what is happening in the real world. Using robotics, they will create and program robots that perform tasks that they see robots do in the real world.

My Project

I am requesting five robotics kits. Teams of students will build robots from scratch and learn how to program the robots to perform advanced tasks. These students will be able to compete with other robotics students in the county. A robotics class allows students to "learn by doing," one of the most effective ways to retain knowledge. By allowing students to build robots, troubleshoot their programs, and compete in contests, they are not only preparing for college, but also developing an appreciation for engineering.

Robotics is engaging and educational.

It also instills an excitement for engineering that students would otherwise not have. Robotics is a great opportunity for my students to prepare themselves for college and for life. Please help my students continue to learn and grow in engaging ways. Thank you!
