Be the cure of "A NEED TO SUCCEED!" Books are a big part of a student's life. Teachers try hard to motivate students to read. Some children have a lot more difficulty reading than others. Their motivation is exciting! Their need is great!They just haven't acquired the skills to read independently
I teach in an awesome elementary in Blackwell,Oklahoma.
My kids love to read. We start off the year learning that reading can take you anywhere you want to go. We have an awesome principal that gives rewards when the students reach various levels of points after passing a test over books that they have read (Accelerated Reader). This keeps our children very motivated towards reading! I have 23 students, and a variety of levels. I have some special needs children that would benefit greatly from the books on cd. Even though a buddy or I may read to them the students feel more accomplished if they have listened to the cd, followed along, and passed an AR test on their own.
My Project
Books are a motivation for children at the elementary age. It is so crucial that students be able to feel accomplished after they have read, or in this case listened, and followed along in a book. Reading is a vital tool in their learning. Although some children have more difficulty learning to read, they should never be punished. As teachers we should always be looking for ways to help them feel successful while thy are learning the skills they need to read independently.
These books on cd will be a great asset to our class.
There are so many students coming in at the beginning of a school year that are so reluctant in reading independently. They love to listen to the Cd's and follow along in the books with their peers. This is a great motivation, and a confidence boost for all of the students. Why not? They only have something to gain! They have finished a book on their own, and feel successful enough to pass an Accelerated Reader test over it! Go Kids!
