Everyone knows that children today will need a firm grasp on technology to be successful in our changing world. With an iPod Touch, they will have access to so much technological experience that they will be more prepared for the future.
The 18 students in my Third grade class are curious, bright and deserving.
They are a diverse group in every way. Some students have access to technology at home and some have little experience at all. Like most students, they respond to new and fun approaches to learning and are capable of absorbing so much.
My Project
With one desktop computer in my classroom, it is difficult for each student to get much more at-school technology time than the hour a week we spend in the computer lab. When I share video clips and websites that complement the topics we're studying, they gather around the computer while we look together. With iPod Touches, my students could do so many things including practicing multiplication facts, listening to audio books, reading eBooks, tracking moon phases during our Science unit and taking photos to post on our classroom blog. They could use apps that will help them with creative writing and allow them to make videos about what they have learned. The students who have grasped a concept could be challenged with a new activity while the others worked and students who need extra practice could get it in a new, fun way. In addition to adding to the learning of curricular objectives, my students would be getting experience with technology that is invaluable in today's world.
Having these iPod Touches in our classroom will expand my students' experience with technology and help them see how much information is available to them.
It will help excite them about learning and spark their creativity as they think of more ways to use them in the classroom.
