This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

How many times have you been able to go into your backyard, dig up a cucumber (or carrot or potato) and eat it?

The children in early elementary education are inquiring minds and they want to know!

We are 3, 4 and 5 year olds preparing for kindergarten in the Nation's Capitol. Neighbors to the First Lady and going hard for the "Let's Move" campaign, we need to learn that we can plant our own vegetables and get digging!

My Project

Students connect classroom learning to real world experiences when the whole world becomes a classroom. Children will be able to plant cucumbers, pick them out in a supermarket produce section and make salads in the classroom. We will need seeds, soil, pots and a plant kit. Youngsters will be able to describe where vegetables come from and how they get to our dinner tables.

Hands on minds on learning is what will help take explicit instruction to academic excellence.

Children are engaged in an environment where they are thriving. A living classroom will help children connect school with real life. Digging and planting and eating will allow children to say--look what I can do!
