My students need snacks, such as pretzels, raman noodles and granola bars, because they are hungry and don't always have food at home.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
You know when you are hungry and you can't focus? Think about having that feeling more often than not.
I work at a charter school where almost 100% of the students are on the free/reduced lunch program.
The students at my school are a true inspiration and example of survival on the streets in the inner city. Many of them face an ongoing challenge that is truly troubling: they are hungry.
My Project
I work with some of the most incredible kids out there. I have many students who come and hang out in my classroom before and after school. The time that we have spent together has lead them to tell me a lot of personal information and stories, including the fact that they do not always have food at home. The most common reason that they have stated that they don't have food is because their family can not afford it. Recently, I started purchasing the items I have requested using my own money. While I am happy to do it, the word has spread and now I have a much larger number of students requesting food throughout the day. I have a few students who I know for a fact that the only meals they have are those they get at school.
This project is important because it will help give the students at our school a small snack that will help them get through their day.
Using this food, I will be able to provide students with a little something help them focus. The candy will be used as an incentive in my class.
