This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

When do they know it? Dry erase boards help me know when I am introducing a skill that it is time to move on to pencil and paper. I can quickly assess as each student participates by putting an answer on a dry erase board. Students can also practice quietly at their desks.

This is a class of thirty first and second graders.

They are sharp students who learn quickly. They also have to tolerate not having a teachers undivided attention as I switch from first grade to second grade and back and forth in the course of a day.

My Project

Do you remember how important it was to show your teacher that you knew the right answer? Do you remember how much fun it was to write on the board just like the teacher? When using dry erase boards I know immediately what each student thinks. I know if more practice is needed, if I need to back up in the concept, or if it is time to move on. The active participation of each student makes our lesson time more effective. We can practice our spelling words, choose answers from a multiple choice list, practice math problems, practice handwriting, write yes or no to agree or disagree, write words like noun, verb, subject,predicate to identify items. My students will learn with less frustration and with immediate feedback when we use our dry erase boards.

Funding this simple project will keep the business of my classroom focused on learning while increasing the level of interest and success.

First and second graders have a lot to learn. This project will help us.
