Cool Breaks for Cool Kids

My Students

Give us a break! My special needs students have serious sensory needs that help them deal with ADHD, compulsions and behavioral issues. When over or understimulated, these kids often have no means of relieving their discomfort.

This would benefit the students in my K-5th grade Functional Intensive Skills Center.

This is a classroom for children with very severe developmental delays ranging from mental retardation, low-functioning autism, severe seizure disorders and debilitating physical conditions. They are an amazing group of students who need an individualized approach to education and additional supports to be successful.

My Project

My students often have strong sensory impulses or needs. They like to be squeezed or have a compulsion to hide under a desk. Sometimes they bolt around the room and are unaware of obstacles. A trampoline would be a very practical and safe means of getting out extra energy and allowing the kids to focus on learning tasks. A tent would give students an appropriate means of sensory deprivation when overstimulated. It's handy pop-up feature will make it easy for teachers to use.

With the use of a trampoline and tent, students will be better able to manage some of their physical and sensory needs and devote more of their attention towards learning activities.
