Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Today's students, even from preschool age, are growing up with new and advanced technology. Technology has become part of their everyday environment.
My students are three and four-year-old all day public school preschoolers from a high poverty environment.
The majority of my students are English language learners. Preschool in my town is integrated which means that one third of my class is composed of children with special needs. The challenges we face are many. We need to teach these children the basics, as well as keep them focused and entertained. Many of my students have spent numerous hours in front of the television, computer, and/or video games. I plan to use today's technology to my advantage and teach the students what they need to know in order to make it into the next level. They are so eager to learn at this age and they really love using computers to do it! I want to provide them with the best tools available to make the most of these early learning years. The iPad is a great tool with amazing opportunities for learning.
My Project
The iPad provides opportunities for practicing skills across the curriculum. The interactive games involve counting change, learning letters and numbers, making words, writing sentences, seeing virtual maps of the world, reading books, and so much more. The vast amount of activities alone will ensure that there will always be a variety of ways to practice and ultimately master the skills they need to learn. Our preschool does not have access to the school’s computer lab, therefore, an iPad would allow me to bring technology into the classroom.
An iPad is much cheaper, portable and flexible than a computer.
Please help me make it possible for my students to learn using today's innovative technology. The opportunity for individual practice of skills is invaluable and it is so easy to provide with the iPad. The children are already so excited to have the chance to 'play' with it that they don't even know that they are learning!
