Snug as a Bug in a Rug

My students need a rug to make coming to the library someplace special where they can relax and read.

My Students

I want the kids to remember the library being a place where they feel comfortable and can just curl up with a good book and read. Having this rug will help the kids see that no matter what we look like, we can all enjoy coming to the library to read together.

Our school, in Florida, has 660 students.

In our particular area there is an economic challenge on the families. Many of the children come from homes where both parents are working, their parents are divorced, or their grandparents are the legal guardians. For some, coming to school is the only stable thing in their lives.

My Project

Our students will feel like the media center is a fun place for them to come to and read about whatever interests them. My students need a rug to make coming to the library someplace special where they can relax and read. Making the room kid-friendly and appealing will invite them in to a relaxing atmosphere. We incorporate storytime for the younger children while teaching the older ones about how to research material for subjects they are dealing with in the classroom at their grade level.

The more appealing the school library is, the more interested the children are about coming in and borrowing books to read.

They look forward to seeing new things that will help make their time in the library more enjoyable. The type of rug we're asking for will make them aware of the fact that no matter what race we are, we can all enjoy reading and learning together.
