My Students

Do you remember your first science experiment? Many of my students have never had the opportunity to explore something for themselves.

I teach at a Dual-Language school with 68% of the students being English Language Learners and 85% of them "At Risk" for failure.

Because of their low economical status, these students don't have the advantage of neighboring schools. These students love to learn. One third of these students remain at school in programs till 6PM Monday through Thursday. The students at this school are unique from the uniforms, their dual language, and as each year passes more and more of these students are passing the state standardized testing.

My Project

I want to make sure that every one of my students get the opportunity to learn the Scientific Method and have them create a project that they can enter into the science fair. Money is tight for 85% of the students at the school. If I want these students to have an opportunity to succeed with their peers, I have to give them some extra help at school.

This is a great way to reach out to these students who have never had the change to explore some thoughts on their own.

By getting them involved in some critical thinking skills, I will be able to watch the "Light" turn on. With a little support and directions we can help these students succeed and feel good about their project.
